April 2nd, 2020 4:17pm -Madison County NY Government Facebook Page

Madison County is taking a very active approach to our handling of the COVID-19 outbreak. Both hospitals are testing people who meet specific criteria. Test results are now coming back more quickly than when COVID-19 testing was first available. The Madison County Health Department receives all COVID-19 test results, reports the county’s numbers twice daily, and updates the Madison County map of positive cases in the evening. The availability of testing, coupled with a faster turnaround time of the test, has recently shown an increase in all of our numbers. COVID-19 is highly contagious with close person-to-person contact, and we expect that the number of positive cases will continue to rise before reaching the apex, the highest rate of infection.

Now more than ever, it is critical that everyone in our community stay home to help stop the spread of this disease. Avoid group gatherings, playdates, sleepovers, and having visitors in your house. Only leave your home for essential supplies or essential work.

When you are outside of the home, continue practicing social distancing by keeping at least 6 feet away from other people. Avoid touching surfaces that may not be clean. Wash your hands often with soap and water. Do not touch your face until you have thoroughly washed your hands. Your efforts will flatten the curve and help us in the spread of this disease in Madison County.
